In the mood for Roberto Cavalli

Sunday 1 March 2015

Roberto Cavalli was inspired by the world of Asia for the theme of his fall winter 2015/2016 collection which is exploring China Through the Looking Glass. An exploration of the Chinese influence on fashion, and as we saw on the runway, the film In the Mood For Love was exactly where that looking glass led him.

The iconic animal prints opened the fashion show.

This collection is my favorite because I think Cavalli took this whole China thing to the next level. The black outfits, following the yellow dresses which make great contrast with the black accessories and animal printed jackets he chose, are not just the classic-safe black totals that everyone want to include in their collection. I LOVED the way he used the yellow -with a little touch of white, floral prints on shirts, dresses, jackets or even jumpsuits. Those four-five pieces - that I would probably wear- were absolutely amazing! It is not only about the print but also the way he successfully combined the chiffon sleeves and the small gold details on this sweet floral print.

Roberto Cavalli travels through the time using the colors and the shapes of his art pieces
Ruffles, prints, contrasts and flares, all in one piece! His collection combines the shapes of the west-European world and the details of the far east-Chinese world. He wants us to try and adapt the new way of thinking and living, and the fact is that I am positive that Cavalli just did it.

What else did we see in Roberto Cavalli for FW 2015/2016 collection?

The way Roberto Cavalli was influenced by the Chinese world is also seen from the windowpane checkered blazers and coats to a prim blouse. The fringes are a must have detail on your clothes as we saw it in other designers' collections as well.

Next, I am not sure if anyone else would think that as well but I must say that the colors used and the contrasts made by the coats/jackets over the dresses, made me think of the militaire style but on a higher new level! Shades of green, long fringes, trucks, leather and a strange combination of black, white and grey.

"Maxi coats and parka jackets are combined
with animalier patterns and dazzling embroidery"

Last but not least, closing up this post I would probably give my congrats (but who Am I?)  to Cavalli as he created the perfect dreamy evening dresses flow with soleil panelleled degradé chiffon plissé.

I assorted the one in red shades.
